Svetlana Fialová

Svetlana Fialová (b. 1985, Slovakia) studied in Vladimír Skrepl's Painting Studio II at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and completed her doctorate at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in 2015. She won the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2013 and has had solo shows in Paris, Vienna, Prague and Bratislava. Her drawing mixes figuration with comics, pop culture and personal mythology, using irony and dark humour to look at the tensions of everyday life. In Neutrum (2013) she portrays rapper and performer Mykki Blanco and asks about identity, gender and the limits of fixed categories.

Viktor Frešo

Viktor Frešo (b. 1974, Slovakia) is one of the most distinctive figures of art after 2000 in the former Czechoslovakia. His concepts and projects attack the art scene and its rituals with open contempt, yet always with lightness, humour and play, setting a grand ego against disarming self-irony. He founded the groups EGOART, Fifty-fifty and BINDERFRESH. His work is held by the Slovak National Gallery, the National Gallery Prague, the National Gallery in Sofia, the Wrocław Contemporary Museum, Bratislava City Gallery and Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum.

Vladimír Houdek

Vladimír Houdek (b. 1984, Czech Republic) belongs to the neo-modernist generation of painters who are not afraid to experiment with classical painting. He works in dialogue with well-known works from art history and builds his surfaces in heavy layers, so the paintings carry real physical weight. His simple-looking symbols draw on the history of science, art, architecture and technology, and a recurring theme is the idea of ideal cities and ideal people. He received the Critics' Prize for Young Painting in 2010 and the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2012.

Martin Lukáč

Martin Lukáč (b. 1989, Slovakia) lives and works in New York. He has shown in solo and group exhibitions across Europe and North America and took part in residencies in Brussels (2018) and Los Angeles (2019). His paintings recall Abstract Expressionism while keeping the freedom of graffiti and pop culture: amorphous figures in bright colour, like odd comic characters, rise from backgrounds of loose lines. He works in series, repeating one motif across many canvases until it is used up.

Stanislav Ondruš

Stanislav Ondruš (b. 1995, Slovakia) lives and works in Prague. He studied in Zbyněk Janáček's Graphic Arts Studio at the University of Ostrava and took his master's in Rastislav Podhorský's Painting Studio III at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. His minimalist, near-monochrome abstractions catch fleeting moments of the present through gesture and small movements. He has had solo shows at DOT. Contemporary in Bratislava, Telegraph Gallery in Olomouc, West Acre Gallery and Nookart Studio in Prague.

Rastislav Podhorský

Rastislav Podhorský (b. 1990, Slovakia) lives and works in Bratislava. A figurative painter and draughtsman, he also writes, curates and teaches full time at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. He published The Ferryman: On Figures in Art and People in Non-Art in 2017 and earned his ArtD. in 2021. He won the VÚB Painting of the Year award for young artists in 2015 and is a laureate of the Novum Foundation. His paintings pair simplicity with the unexpected, looking for intense moments inside ordinary human scenes.

Ľubomíra Chylová Sekerášová

Ľubomíra Chylová Sekerášová (b. 1994, Slovakia) studied in the +-XXI Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, first under Daniel Fischer and then under Rastislav Podhorský and Martin Špirec, and quickly became part of a strong new generation of painters. She retells stories and beliefs handed down by her ancestors and family, building a personal mythology from spirituality, supernatural visions, science fiction, witchcraft and old paganism. Her black-and-white paintings and drawings, with dramatic light, leave their meaning half open, so the viewer never fully grasps the scene.

Ivana Šáteková

Ivana Šáteková (b. 1984, Slovakia) lives and works in Bratislava. She paints and draws from comics and found photographs and also works with embroidery, objects and interactive installations. With uncompromising humour, irony and satire she takes on current social and political issues, linking history, folklore and Slovak folk traditions with the present to expose the contradictions and absurdities of Slovak society. In her words: "I try to respond to public issues with my work, so it is essential for me to be heard."

Lucia Tallová

Lucia Tallová (b. 1985, Slovakia) moves between painting, collage, object and installation, looking at memory, time and material presence, often from a personal and feminist angle. She builds spaces from historical photographs, archival prints and found materials such as antique furniture. She has shown at the 16th Biennale de Lyon (2022), CODA Museum Apeldoorn and Tezukayama Gallery Osaka, with recent solo shows at Zilberman Gallery, Istanbul and Telegraph Gallery, Olomouc (2025). In 2026 she was named Deutsche Bank's Artist of the Year, with the solo exhibition Moving Clouds at PalaisPopulaire in Berlin.
